Trailers - The Master

Paul Thomas Anderson is back with his first feature film in five years "The Master," starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, and Amy Adams. While fans of PT Anderson know it has been a long time coming, it is clear that he wasn't just messing about, he was working on what looks to be a remarkable film. A while back the first teaser hit and left me dumbfounded and now a second teaser has been released in much of the same vein. Take a look at both of these eerie trailers below...

Teaser One - Was There A Fight?

Teaser Two - Hopelessly Inquisitive

After watching both teaser trailers there are a number of things that stand out. One, the similarities they share. Both feature the same musical tone of a guitar or bass being strummed repeatedly and a increasing knocking noise. Both feature Joaquin Phoenix's character being questioned about his mental health. Both have a pattern of intensity that is building. Two, these are dynamic teasers that really help to build the main characters and curiosity of the story Paul Thomas Anderson intends on telling with "The Master". So many trailers show the audiences nothing but sizzle and the highlights, where PT Anderson's teasers are working collaboratively and cohesively like chapters in a book. Three, Joaquin Phoenix looks to be bringing his A-game to PT's latest. The last few years for Phoenix have been something of an enigma to say the least and I for one am happy to see the über-talented actor working like it means something to him again.

Having seen these two trailers I know I have seen enough that I want to see this movie. Hell, these two trailers catapulted this movie to my most anticipated left to see in 2012, but I am interested to see how further trailers play out. Will they continue to build cohesively like chapters in a book as the first two have or will the Weinstein Company decide to give audiences a more cut and dry trailer? I'm hoping for the former and would probably refuse to watch the latter. That said, I don't need anything else from this movie to get me excited. The table is set and I am ready to consume Paul Thomas Anderson's latest.

"The Master" is set for a limited release on October 12th, 2012
