Trailer: Where the Wild Things Are

October 16th is now my most anticipated date of the year for a theatrical release! "Where the Wild Things Are" looks absolutely brilliant! The first trailer for the adapted children's book to film is breath taking. The imagery is unreal, the song written by Arcade Fire is wonderful, the Wild Things are spot on and it looks as though Spike Jonze has nailed the story perfectly. Checkout the trailer below...

Hathaway Finds Inner Dorothy

The Weinstein Company has casted Anne Hathaway to portray Judy Garland both on screen and on stage. Variety reports both productions will be based of the Gerald Clarke-penned biography "Get Happy." The book was published back in 2001 and at this time it is un-clear which version will come first.

Ben Famiglietti, who is Vice President of production and development over at TWC said, "You get an enhanced perspective of Judy Garland through this book and we feel Anne can really put her own stamp on that." Hathaway seems like a perfect choice for the once starlett of film and stage. They have a near striking resemblence and Hathaway should really be able to show off her all-around talents with this double-dipping project. Annne Hathaway can be seen on stage this summer doing Shakespeare in the Park with a production of "Twelfth Night."

What say you? Does a Judy Garland film or stage production intrigue you? As long as Hathaway is involved, count me in! Strikeback...

New Moon Fills Wolf Pack

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" has just added some members to the La Push werewolf pack. Summit Entertainment announced today that they have casted 5 Native American actors to fill out the wolf pack in the Twilight Saga. The werewolf's or shape-shifters in the Twilight Saga, defend humans from the vampire attacks. In "New Moon" Bella is sucked into Jacob's world with Edward removing himself from Bella's life and traveling to Italy to visit the Volturi.

Actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman will members of the pack. No word is given to who they will play, but there is Sam Uley (leader of the La Push pack), Quil Ateara (One of Jacob's wingmen), Embry Call (Another one of Jacob's wingmen), Seth Clearwater (first transforms in New Moon and is the younger brother to Leah Clearwater, the only known female werewolf), Paul (considerd one of the biggest wolf's) and Jared (First to phase after Sam). There are other pack members, but play smaller roles till later books. Kiowa Gordon could be potentially playing Leah Clearwater (I only say that because she's the only female in the bunch casted), but the rest of them are too close to call. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is set to hit theaters November 20th.

In other realted Twilight Saga news, Variety reports, Summit Entertainment has hired Juan Antonio Bayona to direct the 3rd film in the Twilight Saga, "Eclipse". His work on The Orphange was outstanding and only increases my anticipation for the 3rd film in the series. Honestly he is a much better choice than Chris Weitz who is directing "New Moon". "Eclipse" is set to release June 30, 2010.

What say you? Will Summit Entertainment continue to hire a new director for each film? Strikeback...

Cool New 'Wild Things' Images

Some outstanding new images from Spike Jonze's "Where the Wild Things Are" have popped up on the net over at USA Today and I have them for you below. "Where the Wild Things Are" has always been my favorite children's book. It is the pinnacle of children's books! I can't described how excited I am for this movie. What's better is how perfect it looks. If your asking yourself, "who the hell is Spike Jonze?" Slap yourself, he started off directing music videos for acts like the Beastie Boys, R.E.M., Bjork and others. His first feature film was Being John Malkovich. Yeah, if that didn't entice you enough, scroll down and checkout the images in all their glory! "Where the Wilds Things Are" releases October 16th and the first trailer will be attached to "Monsters vs. Aliens"

Where the Wild Things Are

I have been eagerly anticipating the release of "Where the Wild Things Are" for two years now and today I found our first poster for the Spike Jonze film based on the famous children's story. The poster is outstanding and sums up the story pretty nicely, with only one image. "Where the Wild Things Are" is set to release October 16th and stars Forest Whitaker, James Gandolfini, Tom Noonan, Catherine O'Hara and Paul Dano as a few of the voices of the Wild Things. Newcomer Max Records is playing Max. The first trailer is said to be attached to Dreamworks "Monsters vs. Aliens", until then checkout the poster below....

2 New Prince of Persia Images

Disney's "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" has been lensing for since last July in hopes to meet it's May 28th 2010 release date. Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast in the video-game adaptation as the lead Prince Dastan and Ben Kingsley is playing the villainous Nizam. The two new photos feature Gyllenhaal looking deep in thought. I can't say I am too excited about this feature, but it has been pitched as the next Pirates of the Carribean, so let's hope it is better than worse. Scroll down to see the beefed up Gyllenhaal thinking about his pecks.

Watchmen: Opening Credits

"Watchmen" was an amazing experience! The film was dynamic, epic and a seemless transition from page to screen. Sure things were missing and Synder took a few liberties with aspects of the script, but for a one-shot movie, it's the best we are going to get. Zack Synder was able to deliver a faithful adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons historical work.

One of my favorite parts to Watchmen was the opening title sequence that flashed through the era of the minutemen to current times in the story. If you have not seen the "Watchmen" and do not want to see anything prior to going in, SKIP THIS ARTICLE. The video below is the opening title sequence. All of the images are flawless and come screaming right off the page and on to the screen in vivid fashion. Having the title sequence backed by Bob Dylan's "Times They are a Changing" really set the perfect tone to the film. Enjoy the opening sequence again below....

Update: Warner Brothers unfortunately removed the video, can't say I blame them. For those of you that missed it, guess your going to have to get your butt up and go see the film in it's entirety in theaters.

What say you? What was your favorite part of Watchmen? Strikeback...

Fanning Set for The Runaways

Ever heard of The Runaways? Maybe not, but they were the first all girl rock band that featured both Joan Jett and Lita Ford. The band had a successful but short lived career from 75-79 including the mega-hit "Cherry Bomb." River Road Entertainment had previously greenlit a bio-pic for the novelty group with Twillight's Kristen Stewart set to play Joan Jett and writer/director Floria Sigismondi in the director's chair. This week came news that Stewart's "New Moon" co-star, Dakota Fanning will play The Runaways lead singer, Cheri Currie.

Cheri Currie was a 15 year old David Bowie-esque performer who generally performed in all lingerie clothing and later became wrapped up in heavy drug addiction and the typical rock partying lifestyle leading to her leaving the band shortly before the band broke up. Dakota Fanning is the exact same age as Currie, when she joined the band. Fanning furthermore is almost a dead-ringer for the young Currie, who now enjoys creating ice sculptures with a chainsaw.

Fanning definately is showing in her choice of roles that she is growing up. First she is raped in Hound Dog and now she will play the lingerie-clad Cheri Currie in "The Runaways." The role should definately allow Fanning to branch out and get away from her cutesy phaze. Especially if she dawns the same wardrobe Cheri did back in the 70s. Fanning will also be comfortable in the role considering her and Kristen Stewart will be films two films back to back with each other.

"The Runaways" is set to start production in late spring. The film is being produced by Bill Pohlad, John Linson and Art Linson with Joan Jett serving as executive producer. The roles of Lita Ford, Sandy West and Vicki Blue have yet to be cast. More news to follow as it becomes available.

Checkout the video of The Runaways performing Cherry Bomb in Japan below....

What say you? Does The Runaways sound like something you'd go see? Do you remember Cheri Currie and Vicki Blue's cameo in This is Spinal Tap?

Trailer 2: Star Trek

The second trailer for "Star Trek" has been released and I got it for you below. Much like the last trailer it gives us the background of James T Kirk and what drew him to Star Fleet. We get a bit more expanded from the freefall jump seen in the last trailer. All in all Abrams looks to have definately super-charged Star Trek. It could piss off alot of fans, however it looks stunning to me. Let's hope the entire film measures up to the trailer. "Star Trek" releases May 8th. Checkout the trailer below...

What say you? Will you see JJ Abrams Star Trek? Strikeback...

Teaser: The Hangover

Our first teaser trailer for "The Hangover" has finally hit the net. "The Hangover" is directed by Todd Phillips (Old School), written by Jon Lucas and stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis. "The Hangover" follows Doug and his three friends who go to Vegas two days before his wedding and end up waking up with a huge hangover the day of the wedding. To make matters worse, the friends find a tiger and a sixteen month old baby in their hotel room, one of their friends missing and not being able to remember any of it. Hijinks ensue as the friends try to retrace just what had transpired, all the while, trying to make it back for Doug's wedding. The trailer is just over a minute but definately sets the stage for what could be a pretty damn funny film. "The Hangover" releases June 5th. Check it out below...

What say you? Outside of the Mike Tyson bit at end, did you find the rest of trailer funny? Is it just me, or does The Hangover look a lot like Very Bad Things? Strikeback....

Scripting Umbrella Academy

Back in October, I reported that Universal Studios had optioned Gerard Way's comic, "The Umbrella Academy" for a feature film. While at the "Watchmen" premiere Gerard Way, frontman for My Chemical Romance and creator of the Dark Horse comic talked a bit about what is happening with the big screen adaptation over at Universal. Scroll down to see what Way had to say about the upcoming film, it's development and his involvement in pre-production.

First up Gerard Way told Collider the film is being fast-tracked at the studio and that they have hired a screenwriter. "It kinda feels like it's been a little fast-tracked at Universal, the very first "Umbrella Academy" movie," Way explained. He continued to reveal the film's screenwriter, "There's a screenwriter, a great screenwriter named Mark Bomback and he is the guy we love to do it." He added, "So it feels that everything is moving very fast and I think it is."

Gerard Way's first comments lead me to believe that Universal is definately looking at Umbrella Academy as a series and not just a one shot. When Way said, "the very first Umbrella Academy movie" definately nods to more than one. Way just wrapped up his second series of Umbrella Academy called "Dallas" so the series clearly has potential for sequels.

Mark Bomback has previously wrote Live Free Die Hard, the upcoming "Race to Witch Mountain," Deception and Godsend. Way's comments definately point that he has nothing but confidence in Bomback and what he will do with his creation.

Way was asked why he wasn't writing the screenplay himself which he said, "I didn't want to because I felt writing the comic was enough. To me it's done. I don't want to write it again." Way however has been very involved in the entire process throughout. "I've been in every meeting, I helped pick the screenwriter, I went through all that stuff. I've literally been there the whole time." The musician/comic creator eluded that at one point he doesn't want to be as involved, in the hopes, that the hired director can present their own vision to the book. Way said, "I want it to be the director's vision."

What say you? Have you read Way's comic? If not, I highly recommend it. Who should direct Umbrella Academy? Strikeback...

Trailer: Public Enemies

The first trailer for "Public Enemies" hit the internet today and I have it for you below. The trailer gives a solid look to the overall feel to "Public Enemies," however the music used throughout does nothing but pull the viewer out of the film. The music is completely distracting, mismatched and also makes the watcher wonder what the hell it is doing in the trailer. For a period piece, one would hope the music would match the era, not so in the trailer. Let's hope that the score is unfinished, because this music has no place in the film.

If you didn't know, Michael Mann's "Public Enemies" follows the infamous bank-robber John Dillinger and the FBI's pursuit of the legendary Depression era criminal. The film stars Johnny Depp as John Dillinger and Christian Bale as the FBI's top agent Melvin Purvis. Marion Cotillard stars as Dillinger's girlfriend Billie Frechette. "Public Enemies" opens July 1st for Universal Pictures.

DiCaprio Set for Inception

Leonardo DiCaprio has been cast in Christopher Nolan's next film "Inception". THR reports Leo will play the lead in Nolan's scifi. The film is aiming for a summer shooting start for and a 2010 release date. "Inception" is pitched as: "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within "the architecture of the mind." The film is being produced by Chris and Emma Thomas for Warner Brothers through the couple's Syncopy Films. This marks the fourth film Nolan has done for WB including his two Batman films and Insomnia.

DiCaprio, who can be next seen in Martin Scorsese"s "Shutter Island," is a very capable actor and under Nolan's vision this project is shaping up to be a nice fill-in while we wait for another Batman. More news to follow as it becomes available....

What say you? Are you excited for anything Nolan brings to the table?

Megan Fox Lands 2 Comic Roles

Fanboys can rejoice that Megan Fox has been cast in both Warner Brothers "Jonah Hex" and Fox Atomic's "Fathom". Both are comic book films that one of which will see Megan Fox in swimwear or lack there of for a majority of the film. I am sure the internet is flooded with lame boner references, but I am far less enthusiastic, as I have been since last September when I first broke this story. Megan Fox may be some very nice eye candy, but a quality actress she is not.

THR reports that Fox will play Leila, the love interest to Hex in "Jonah Hex," which being directed by Jimmy Haward. "Jonah Hex" is set to begin lensing in April with John Malkovich as the villain trying to raise an army of the undead in order to liberate the South. Having Megan Fox in a supporting role seems like a no brainer. It is the second casting that may be the film's undoing.

"Fathom" is a great comic that follows Aspen, a young girl who is discovered at sea and can only remember her name. Aspen is adopted by the captain of the ship and grows up being surrounded and captivated by the ocean. She earns a degree in Marine Biology participates in Summer Olympics and becomes employed by a top-secret underwater research lab called DMD, Deep Marine Discovery. During her employment with DMD, Aspen learns that she is infact a member of a aquatic race called the Blue who have the ability to manipulate water.

Megan Fox being casted as Aspen is huge! It will be her movie. The question is, can Megan Fox carry an entire film? It is highly doubtful. Like I said before, she is great eye candy, but as the lead? I am having visions of Halle Berry's Catwoman. The positive is Fox is a dead-match for Aspen in the comics. Megan Fox has Fox Atomic's "Jennifer's Body" releasing this year, so the studio most definately has a bit more confidence in her than I.

What say you? Will Megan Fox be able to carry Fathom? Use your real head gentlemen! Strikeback...

Kevin Smith & Couple of Dicks

ERC Box Office is reporting that Kevin Smith has signed on to a Warner Brothers production titled "Couple of Dicks." Smith will direct and for the first time, in a feature film, be working from a script he did not write. "Couple of Dicks" has Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan set to star in the 2008 Black List script written by Robb and Marc Cullen. "Couple of Dicks" is said to follow "two veteran LAPD detectives attempt to track down a stolen, mint-condition, 1952 baseball card." The film is set to release January 29th, 2010.

This isn't the first time Smith has worked with either Tracey Morgan or Bruce Willis, so the chemistry should be solid between them. This is the first time Smith is directing something other than his own work. Hopefully Smith will be adding a bit of his own flare to the script, and with the title of "Couple of Dicks," one wouldn't doubt Smith's typical dick jokes aren't far off.

Kevin Smith may be working with a major studio in hopes that they send a little love his way in the future. Smith who has been trying to get financing for his horror film "Red State" could be working a deal with WB to help get his self-proclaimed "unmarketable" film made. Smith has remained adamant about making Red State on the cheap, but with lunchbox reaching out to major studios, he could be uping the ante. At least for now, it's gonna be awhile before Smith fan's get "Red State".

What say you? Is a buddy comedy with Willis and Morgan directed by Smith worth admission? Strikeback....

Trailer: Sin Nombre

"Sin Nombre" was picked up by Focus Features at Sundance and will be hitting theaters in a limited release March 20th. Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna have executive produced the Mexican film directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. "Sin Nombre" follows two teens who meet coming from two very different circumstances, however both are trying to emigrate into the United States. Checkout the intriguing trailer below....

What say you? The fact that Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna have attached their names to Sin Nombre is reason enough for me to watch, not to mention it looks very compelling. Strikeback...

Trailer: Lymelife

"Lymelife" is directed by Derick Martini and focuses on the dark side of suburban paradise and the loss of innocence centers on two deeply troubled, dysfunctional families during the late 1970s. The film stars Rory Culkin, Keiran Culkin, Alec Baldwin, Jill Hennessy, Emma Roberts, Timothy Hutton and Cynthia Nixon. The trailer gives the viewer a nice look at just what to expect from the indie drama. The film is set for a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on April 8th. Checkout the trailer below....

What say you? Is Lymelife up your alley? Nice to see the Culkin bros working together. Strikeback...

Teaser: Broken Embraces

Hot off her Best Supporting Actress Academy Award, Penelope Cruz can next be seen in Pedro Almodóvar's "Broken Embraces". Pedro Almodóvar has directed such oustanding films as Law of Desire, High Heels, Live Flesh, All About My Mother, Talk to Her, Bad Education, and Volver.

"Broken Embraces" or it's spanish title, "Los Abrazos Rotos," is a 1990's set drama that is described as, "four-way tale of amour-fou, shot in the style of '50s American film noir at its most hard-boiled, with signature Almodóvar themes such as fate, the mystery of creation, guilt, unscrupulous power, the eternal search of fathers for sons, and sons for fathers."

The trailer is short and features absolutely no dialogue, but it definately gets it's point across. The noir-style looks to be heavily featured and the wardrobe is bound to get some notice. Cruz looks goregous as ever and "Broken Embraces" looks like a must see for 2009. The film is set to release March 18th in Spain and will find itself a limited release stateside come November 6th. Checkout the extremely short teaser trailer for "Broken Embraces" below....

What say you? Does the themes presented in the film entice you? Strikeback...

Trailer: Terminator Salvation

I am still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor after having viewed the newest "Terminator Salvation" trailer for the third time in a row. Any doubt I previously had about what McG was going to do with this revamp of Terminator is completely gone. If a 2 and half minute trailer is anything to judge a movie off, the "Terminator Salvation" trailer does the job. Consider my ticket sold already. Some may say that the newest trailer gives away too much of the plot, but if any of you have been paying attention, toys have already revealed what this trailer only confirms. I am sure there are plenty more easter eggs in the basket. "Terminator Salvation" releases May 21st and check out the outstanding trailer below....

TR2N Details Emerge!!

A trustworthy source over at AICN has some of the early plot details to the long anticipated TRON sequel. Early production has begun in Vancouver and below I have the full report to check out. If you do not want to know some of the major plot points to TR2N or whatever it will be called, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!!

The title will almost certainly NOT be TRON 2 or TR2N. Possibly something with a colon - TRON: ________.

The story takes place approximately 25 years after the original.

The movie starts in 1989. Kevin Flynn (Bridges) has created some of the world's top selling games based on his Game Grid challenges in the first film, and has marketed the hell out of what he saw there (action figures, Recognizer night lights, yadda yadda yadda).

Flynn has a seven year old son named Sean.

Flynn disappears, leaving behind his son.

Alan Bradley (Boxleitner) takes over Flynn's company (ENCOM).

Jump forward in time: Sean is now twenty something.

Alan Bradley has info that leads Sean to look for Flynn.

Search takes Sean to Flynn's old arcade - mothballed.

Into the computer world goes Sean.

There's a CLU character (Flynn's computer alter-ego from the first film).

Flynn has programmed CLU to run around and make a better computer world, but CLU's gone corrupt and is creating his own interpretation of that perfect world. This is why CLU (young Bridges) is being such a punk-ass in that Comic Con footage we saw.

CLU has it out for a kind of program called ISOs & wants to eradicate them.

The ISOs believe Sean Flynn is the one who will free them from CLU's belligerence.

Somewhere in the computer world, the real Kevin Flynn is whizzing around in a classic Light Cycle. Will he help in the battle against CLU?

Light Jets have jet walls, too.

Light Cycles versus Light Jets.

Big Disc battle!

Bridges going all out for this role. Embracing it. Fans will go gaa gaa.

What say you? The plot seems to hold to the original film while still developing the beloved story. Are you excited about a sequel to TRON? Are you saying what the hell is TRON? Strikeback....

Let the Right One In Remake

For some reason here in America we have a hard time watching foreign films. Is it the subtitles? Is it the quality of the films? Do American producers instead of promoting someone else's amazing work, just want to remake it so they take home all of the proceeds? Is it a combination of all three? Needless to say, that nearly every outstanding foreign film gets remade for American audiences with the result never being comparable to the original. The newest foreign film to recieve a remake is Let the Right One In or the swedish title, Låt den Rätte Komma In and I couldn't be more furious!

Let the Right One In is a perfect film in every way. It was one of the best films from last year whether foreign or domestic. Director Tomas Alfredson presents one of the best vampire films to date, furthermore Let the Right One In is a poignant and thought provoking love story that never disappoints. It is compelling and absolutely enthralling from open to close. (Read my review) The 2008 film has no reason to be re-made. Instead the film should be seen as is, heavily promoted and with the right campaign it would easily pull off a decent gross.

Director, Tomas Alfredson isn't to excited about his work being remade so quickly either. He said last year at his films premerie, "Remakes should be made of movies that aren’t very good, that gives you the chance to fix whatever has gone wrong. I’m very proud of my movie and think it’s great, but the Americans might be of an other opinion. The saddest thing for me would be to see that beautiful story made into something mainstream." That exactly what we will get, a mainstream piece o' shit!

Regardless of my and others strong opinions, "Let the Right One In" will begin lensing in May for a 2010 release. Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield, has been hired to film the remake for Hammer and Overture Films. It gets worse, Reeves will be directing the remake from his own script. All but solidifying, that the remake is going to be a waste of time.

The original film follows a fragile and bullied pre-teen boy who makes friends with a unusual girl that has just moved into his apartment complex. As a friendship develops between the two, the boy soon comes to realize that the intriguing girl may be something far darker than he ever realized. Coinciding with the arrival of the girl and her guardian, murders and a disappearance in the town gives rise to suspicion surrounding the new tenants.

The original Let the Right One In releases on dvd and bluray next week on March 10th. I highly recommend you rent or purchase a copy of this film, you will not regret it.

What say you? Have you seen Let the Right One In? Do you watch foreign films or avoid them like the plague? Strikeback....

Musical is Back: Damn Yankees

As Hugh Jackman proclaimed at this year's Oscars, "The musical is back," and in that vein, New Line Cinema has announced they will be remaking the classic 1950's musical and film "Damn Yankees".

The musical will be contemporized and follows a middle-aged baseball fan who makes a pack with the devil in order to help the hapless baseball team beat the Yankees. The fan turned player can break the deal, however the deadline occurs during the World Series. In order to seal his fate, the devil enlists the help of a lost souls and seductress named Lola.

Variety is reporting that Jake Gyllenhaal will play Joe Boyd, who makes a faustian deal with the devil. The devil will be played by funny man, Jim Carrey. This will be the first musical for either actor and both parts feel like perfect fits for the two. Gyllenhaal will be perfect as the brooding fan who becomes the long ball hitter for his favorite baseball team. Jim Carrey is an interesting choice as the devil. Hopefully Carrey will not be too over-the-top here in "Damn Yankees," but I wouldn't hold my breath. No casting has been announced for the role of Lola as of yet...

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are set to write the script. New Line Cinema will once again go to Hairspray producer's Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to produce the film. Expect to see "Damn Yankees" in theaters sometime in 2010.

What say you? Fan of the musical? Have you seen the play or film in some form before? How will this musical hold up being updated to current times? The original musical the baseball team was the Washington Senators, who will the current version be? Strikeback...

Hurt Locker Release Date Set

"The Hurt Locker" for the last year and a half has been doing it's rounds on the film festival circuit, but Summit Entertainment has finally given the intense military film a solid release date. The film will explode into theaters June 26th 2009.

"The Hurt Locker" does not hold back in any way and is a brutal look into an elite Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team in present-day Baghdad that fights an onslaught of bombs and snipers. The film is based on recent real events from declassified Army intelligence. I had the opportunity to see this film last year and absolutely loved it. The film is extremely intense throughout and is a gripping account of what our United States military have faced in Baghdad, furthermore the mindset these brave soldiers must mantian in order to survive on a daily basis.

The film stars Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, David Morse, Christian Camargo and is directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Jeremy Renner won at this year's Independant Spirit Awards for Best Male Lead in "The Hurt Locker" as did Anthony Mackie for Best Supporting Male. The film has also won Camerimage and Venice Film Festivals in 2008. This is a film that all Americans should see.

What say you? Will you see "The Hurt Locker"? Are you ready to face what dangerous situations our U.S. soldiers are put in? Strikeback...
