Chow Adds His Hustle to Green Hornet

Stephen Chow has been long rumored for the role of Kato in the Green Hornet film that is being developed by longtime friends Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen for Columbia Pictures, today however that is finalized with another interesting addition. Various sources are reporting that Stephen Chow will direct and star in the action comedy alongside Seth Rogen. Chow will clearly play Kato in the film while also directing the film which is slated for a June 25th, 2010 release date.

Stephen Chow had this to say when about taking on the project, "I'm excited to be taking on 'The Green Hornet' obviously, I've been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee's shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true. I'm grateful to my friends at Sony, who have shown so much faith in me for so many years. I'm looking forward to working with Seth, Evan, Neal, and the team at Sony, and I'm eager to get started."

Matt Tolmach who is a co-president of Columbia Pictures commented further on sigining Chow to star and direct. He said, "When Seth, Evan, and Neal said they wanted Stephen Chow to be part of 'The Green Hornet,' it was a fantasy. Now that it's happening, it's almost too good to be true. Stephen's been a very important part of the Sony family for many years, so it's truly serendipitous for us to be moving forward with him directing the movie and starring as Kato." Adding to the praise Neal H. Mortiz executive producer said, " 'The Green Hornet' is a dream project and it's come together in a dream way. Seth will be fantastic in the lead role, and Stephen was the only name on the list for Kato. The material is a perfect match for his sensibilities...Stephen in the director's chair is the best thing for the film."

Adding Stephen Chow just raised my eye-brow! It definately intrigues me, I love "Kung-Fu Hustle" however "CJ7" was terrible. This project does seem to fit him very well considering Chow has long idolized Bruce Lee and does a mean impersonization of him. Seth Rogen is the question mark for this film. He definatley has been trying to get in shape and is looking better. I am sure he and his writting partner, Goldberg have whipped up a great script rich with hilarious dialogue, but I am very hesitant to believe Rogen can pull off the action. Rogen did give us a preview of what he has in "Pineapple Express" but that was like five minutes! Assuming Rogen has already written much of the action for Kato it could work quite nicely. Oh shit, I am as back and forth as a see-saw right now! Time will tell on this one, much more to come.

Here's Rogen two-cents on getting Chow to star and direct in Green Hornet, "Stephen was always my and Evan's first choice for director and to play Kato. We just hope that he never finds out we're not the Wachowski Brothers." Like the guy was going to say, "damn!, we wanted Jet Li!"

Just to show the difference Rogen has made since the Oscars last year
